Fancy guppy problem

Postby OscarTheGrouch on Tue Jul 12, 2005 9:29 pm

I have tested my water and it seems to fine but for some reason all my females are dying on me. I have one left that doesn't look that good so I don't think it will be long for her. The males seem fine.....

Fancy guppy problem

Hi, OTG. You know -- the normal questions: What size tank are your guppies in? Anything in there with them? What's the water temp? Anything new been introduced lately? What are nitrate levels?

Fancy guppy problem

Postby OscarTheGrouch on Thu Jul 14, 2005 9:05 pm

DanRad:

The nitrate is a bit high - 25mg, the ammonia appears to be 0, and nitrite is about .3mg, I would think there should be more nitrite and ammonia to be higher. The PH is about 7.5.

What does OTG stand for? I find it quite strange that it seems to be the females affected. There is nothing new in the tank either.

Thanks for your help

Just judging by your nitrite reading, I'd hazard a guess that you somehow had a mini-cycle occur a week or 2 ago. Ammonia seems to be gone now, but some nitrites still remain. The ammo & nitrites probably contributed to the deaths. Do more frequent water changes till the nitrites no longer register.
