as a matter of fact, i had a red oscar in with my convicts at one time. the oscar thought he was a bad @ss, and kept opening his mouth really big at the convicts. i guess they go tired of it, and showed him who was boss. he always stayed in a corner, and was 5 times bigger than they were. i only had 3 convicts at the time.

i had 2 convicts both use to bully my red devil when i first got him(2inches) now he is 5 or 6 inches and one of the convicts are dead.i look at it this way oscars dont really like to fight so if u plan on puttin other cichlids in with them make sure the oscar is the biggest fish in the tank buy like 4 5 inches

Keep the convicts seperate. They are nasty little guys, and will fight for their right, if ya know what I mean. We have 2, a male and female...they are by themselves in a 10 gallon, with their frye. We thought of putting them with our Texan, but he's just as mean. So, they are in different tanks. Good thing....the Texan would surely eat the frye. The Cons are cool, though. I love watching them change color. They will be very dark, then almost in a blink of an eye, be pure white.....they look like zebras. I know it's due to us always looking in the tank at them, but it's still neat. Not to mention, they make very good parents. Very protective of their family. I couldnt imagine putting them with our O's....they are so peaceful....good luck....

An excellent product to have on hand is melafix. Great for injuries and growing fins back. Trust me this stuff is awsome. I got a convict from a friend of mine who had it in with a melanachromis. The con came to me with literally no fins. I medicated him on and off for a week at a time for about a month and a half and he grew all his fins back with only a split in his tale. otherwise perfectly healthy.

my Cons had fry and i have no tank space now i have the male and the female in the 10 gallon with about 60 fry and its VERY cramped space for them... i went to the LFS and asked if they wanted to buy them or even just take them but they said they were to common so they didnt want them

now i have no idea what to do with all these fish:confused: sooooo does any one have any experiences like this and what did you do???
