Dumb question

Does a nnitrate tester go purple if you leave it on the counter for a while. I tested last night and it was light blue which is good but came back a little later and it was purple.

I know it is a dumb question I must be having a brain fart. Still getting into this freshwater thing.

usually there is a time that you are supposed to wait before checking it.

Check the directions and see how much time it says to wait and try again. ;-)

I agree with clint. The water test kits that I have for my aquariums all say that you are supposed to read the results immediatly or it is inaccurate. I would check the directions and make sure that is the case in your situation.

I agree with what has been said, there are some test that are supposed to "cure" for 2-5 mins before an accurate reading can be taken and there are some that will start to give false reading after that same amount of time... you'll have to check your instruction manual... they will usually tell you how long to wait between steps and how long to wait until you get a reading when you are done.
