Crickets good bad?

Postby max33e on Sun Jun 11, 2006 7:57 pm

i have heard that feeder fish do not supply much nutrients and have a high risk of disease if not quarantined. But what about crickets or mealworms. Are they healthy for oscars. Do they have any nutrient value besides protein that they already get from there usual pellets. And besides pellets what would be a good idea to feed to oscars(mine are about 4 inches im not shure about there age) to give them a healthy balanced diet.

Crickets are fine as treats, though occasionally some will escape the tank. I also use mealworms, frozen prawns, etc for treats. Get a couple of different kinds of pellets/sticks for variety. Some are more veggie-based, some more general, and some lean toward carnivore. Mine like several brands, and don't like other brands -- yours may have different preferences. I have a wealth of local shops to choose from. Choices in your area may be even better or not as many. You can also order online. Prices are generally lower than in the pet shops, but you need to order sufficient quantity to justify the shipping charges. There are many excellent pellet choices, so it's hard to make too bad a mistake.

No. Main danger is getting loose in your house and being a nuisance.

crickets are fine also you should have a variety of foods to feed them like veggies such as lettuce, peas, carrots, string beans (just peel the skin off) earth worms, blood worms, and chiclid pellets ;D tmbsup
