Convicts Digging?

Postby SFA on Sat Jul 13, 2002 10:34 pm

Hello Everyone,
I'm new to this forum, and raising convicts, and was wondering why my convicts burrow in the rocks? They have already have 3 spots they keep digging in. The male and female have paired off and follow each other like the plague and run the others off. Is this signs of them starting to breed? There are 5 of them, 3 females and 2 males. Is there other signs I need to know as to when they lay eggs? This is really neat, I've never seen fish have fry's.
Thanks for any information.

Convicts Digging?

Convicts normally dig little holes for placing their newly hatched fry into to enable protection from other fish.
They normally spawn their eggs on or in clay pots, the sides of heaters, filter intake hoses or rocks. Convicts are normally really good parents and quite often the male will try and take over complete charge of the fry. He will even kill the female to do so.
