Convict Cichlids

Further to my last post, on Friday night, my female convict layed her eggs. Last night she moved them inside the ornament which they had previously knocked over. The hole is too small for her to go into herself, but the male can go in. I shone a light inside, this morning, and I can see a whole bunch of little wigglers. How long will it be until they are free swimming?

The male will look after them for the next week or so before they start free swimming..I wouldn't really worry about the female, the only concern that I would have is that she is not bullied or attacked by the male. In times like this, the male kinda takes over and protects the brood as they start to mature, just watch that your female doesn't get killed by the male, and as soon as the group of "young-ins" are able to be removed guess what, your pair(original male and female) will get back together and give you another spawn...
