when i turn on the lights they seem to stress out. they would turn really light and cower away. Can i just rely on natural light from the window, buy softer lights or make them get used to it?

tint the glass-tops with light tint

Just try using a lower watt bulb with your tank. You may try what redbelly1966 said and give it a go >.=)

first check if the light is incondecent or florecent/next if you use nat light do you think a pleco will survive in the tank esp/if there a possible pair.because youl need the pleco for all the algy youl collect.penn plex makes a wonderfull ubv soft lighgt you may want to check that out.back to the flo/inc inc lights can prove to be a big mastake there knowen to im simple terms fry a fishes brain flos dont put out the same type of micro waves at the same time the vics are small arnt the they WILL grow out of it eventualy

o no..i got inc bulbs. my hood lets you put 2 in there. is there any small floresnt bulbs i could buy to take the place of the inc? a pleco? dose dings get huge! maybe a chinese or siemese algae eater. or a snail. i heard that once they getta pair, they go crazy and prolly gonna attack the other fish.

You can buy fluro bulbs that fit in i/c sockets but they are not very cheap ($20 here)

i hate to say this but the truth is that youd be better off buying a new light altogether.becaus o2ooo is right flo bulbl are around 20$ for about ten more you can buy yourself a new light fix for the top of the tank.
