checked macropthalmus

Postby 2ndgen on Sun Oct 16, 2005 8:32 pm

has anyone ever heard of this fish? i tried to get a picture from the internet, but i couldn't find one? i found just the general macropthalmus, but it didn't look anything like what i have. i wish i had a digital camera so i could show you guys. i'm just going off of what the store owner told me. it kinda looks like a zebra like fish, kinda greyish with black stripes, and the tips of the top fins are red. i automatically thought that it was a red top zebra, but he assured me that it was a checked macropthalmus. he actaully showed me a red top, and i winded up buying one :D

since i have this thread started, what do you guys think about this statement? the fish store that i go to said that i could have about 20-25 assorted africans along with my 2 pictus and shark as long as i did a 50% water change every 2 weeks. does that sound about right?

It's
Pseudotropheus macropthalmus ,tanzanian checked
or
Pseudotropheus macropthalmus , red check

Not sure where to find pics online but I've seen a few locally at auctions and shows.

checked macropthalmus

Postby 2ndgen on Tue Oct 18, 2005 8:47 pm

well i get home today, and i find a tank full of fat fish  i could have expected an "accidental over feeding" by my kids, but not from my wife. she said that she gave them 2 pinches (which is what i give them) but then the can dumped a little more in there. she thought the fish were too hungry looking, so it would be ok to leave the excessive food in there. so my question is, will they be ok for a day or 2 without food? my 2 pictus cats look like they are going to explode. i'll post some pics that i took with my friends crappy camera. they don't do any justice what so ever.
