hi readers..just wondering how long does the female oscar carry the fry after matting,,As i have a large breeding pair.

oscars are not mouth brooders so the female never carries the babies. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the O babies are born free swimming, or if not become so very quickly. They will care for the young until space begins to deminish and they are seen as competition, or if they are inexperienced parents they may eat them out right. they are very good parents so if they dont get it right on the first try just let them try until they get it they should after maybe 2-3 times of spawning.

oscars will sometime eat the little baby fry

Oscars aren't born at the freeswiming stage, I don't know how long it takes for them to get there because mine never made it that far.
