Bloody Parrot Fish

Ok...I bought this fish because I thought it was unique looking.....I looked it up on the net after i got it and found out where it actualy came from. Now I kinda feel guilty for owning one. However...I am not going to kill it so I need some info on it because the net doesnt give out much. I name all my fish i would like to know how to tell if it is male or female and also the propper thing to be feeding it etc.....It is a bloody parrot fish. I guess from what I read it is a cross between a red devil and some form of cichlid

It's a cross between a reddevil (or midas) and a severum.
+ it's dyed :( so don't expect it to stay that color. - it'll probally either turn orange or brown

feed it cichlid food - pellets - preferably on the smaller side due to the shape and size of their mouth.

Keep it at 77-82 degrees.

hopefully that helps some.

Thanks for the info. I just cannot believe they do this to fish. I guess nature is not pretty enough for people!!I am still wondering if there is a way to know the sex. And no I do not intend to even attemp to breed them... Just want to name him correctly like the rest of my fish. maybe that sounds silly but my fish are my babies!

I am also wondering something else.....I have ready alot on red devil fish and I read everywhere how aggressive they are. This fish does not seem agressive at all. in fact it is like it has its own personality. something I guess I never noticed from most fish. its almost like he is aware of everything going on both inside and outside the tank. He even goes to a certain spot when he wants to be fed and knows im looking at him. almost like he is talking to me witout saying anything. Its odd for me. but very interesting.

red devils (the whole devil/midas complex actually) are usually aggressive but some aren't. I have one that begs for food and stays next to my hand anytime I'm working on the tank. The others all seem to rather be left alone or they'll do whatever they can to make people leave them alone.

Also when they're small (under 6") most a pretty docile.

With the hybrid

you also have the (usually) laid back attitude of a severum too.

A lot of people don't know there hybrids or dyed so it's not your fault. It's just sad that they do that to fish. I would defenitly keep him though, sounds like you like him a lot. He/she looks like a Packo or Cheeko, LOL!!! Do you know how to vent? Can you get any pics of the vent area? Mu fish are my babies too! I name mine too!
Stillearnin - that's so cute that your RD stays by you. My makes me bleed, LOL. I honestly wear gloves now because he makes me bleed and my hands are getting scared up. My does beg for food though, that's the only time he likes me, haha.

Bloody Parrot Fish

Hi

Hi. Just thought I would introduce myself. I am a groomer. I also groom, train and show our pups (our babies!!) My husband and I also own a Harley and love it. We have have 5 pups (3 dobies, 1 chinese crested powderpuff, 1 chinese crested hairless) a ferret, Keily (kee-ly) who thinks she is a dog ( she actually went Best In Show her first and only time being shown) and a 55 gallon tank with 3 blood parrots. (when I got them they were about 2 inches or alittle less, now they are about 7inches), 1 pleco (about 8 inches now) 4 guppies, 4 blue neons and 1 male betta. The parrots do not eat the small fish. Everyone gets along real nice. I have had them for about 2 years now. The parrots have never had any illnesses, no problem eating, swimming. And, will eat out of my hand like a oscar. They beg just like them to. I feed them Hikari cichlid gold, bio blend cichlid, dried shrimp, meal worms, earthworms, cichlid flakes and tubiflex worms. I am always looking for variation. The betta is in heaven. Even though I have the power filters going, he has plenty of area where the water is calm and plants to. He swims all over the place. Very fit. Beautiful colors. Look forward to talking.
