Big male and yound oscar

Postby mewik on Tue Oct 31, 2006 4:58 pm

Can anyone help me out...I recently got a breeding pair of Oscars and the female died after 2 days  :crybaby2:

The guy at the fish store suggested i try puttin my young Oscar (around 8") in the tank with the big male and see if they pair up or what.
At first the male wanted to kill me little Oscar, but now they seem to be gettin along great.

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me whether the two would actually get along if my small Oscar is not a female. The fish store guy says that the big male would kill the little male if it was not a female????  :violent1: I am not to keen on keeping the 2 together for a while and then the start beefin each other up.

Thanks

Oscars' behavior toward one another is not entirely predictable.  I'd say as long as they're getting along just be happy with it.  I am a little concerned by the death of the original female.  Is this an established tank, or new?  How big is the tank?  What is the water temp?  What are the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings?  Sometimes of course it happens, but it's a bit unusual for an adult Oscar to just die.  Check everything out to see if you can find a contributing factor so that it doesn't happen again.

The tank set up is fine had all checked out before i got the fish and after......The part i didn't mention cause i find it a bit on the stupid side is the female actually died because when i went to get the pair the helper guy at the fish store droped her.... :BangHead:

I tried to get her right but she just didn't come round....I checked the water again afterwards to make sure it wasn't something to do with the water....the water was perfect.

I was just gonna ditch the male back to the fish store and get my old O back, but he suggested i try pairing the 2 up....like i said didn't go to well at first but the 2 seems to be gettin along really well now.
