Beef Heart Recipe

Theres a few different ways
trim the fat and the hard veins off first which ever way you use it.

- cut in bite size peices and feed it raw

or prepare it -

when I use it I prepare most of it something like

1 beefheart (about 3-5 pounds) ground in the food processor
1 pound of shrimp ground in the food processor
3-4 cups of fish food (pellets, spirulina flakes, flakes, krill powder whatever extra is around) crushed into powder.
a few fish fillets or chicken (depends on whats in my freezer) ground in the food processor
1 can of peas (drained no water)
*if I have excess frozen fish food sometimes I'll use that instead of one of the other ingredients*

3-4 packs of unflavored uncolored gelatine (knorr or knox) this is what binds it together.

pretty easy to make, grind everything up and mix it with the gelatine add as little water as possiable so it binds together better.

just DON"T over process it - you want small peices not liquid

Spread it out - on a wax paper covered cookie sheet (in layers if you need to) and put it in the fridge once it sets (somewhat like jello does) cut it into squares. It can be frozen and used for months

You can make smaller amounts and you can add other stuff with a little trial and error. I change mine around depending on what ingredients I have on hand.

Takes a few minutes to make but if you make enough you don't have to do it very often and when I make it I usually get around 8 pounds of good food for about $15 or less.

Theres some other variations online like

Tony and Adam's recipie

or it seems alot of discus breeders use just beefheart and gelatin
and some of the pleco people use beffheart and squash type veggies with gelatin .
