my mom has a water purification unit that uses uv sterilization and ionization. I was wondering if this water would be good to use in my fish tanks.

I'd rather have a Ionizer ,it's about the same type of thing but an Ionizer wastes alot less water and doesn't remove to many minerals .

Just the way I understand it (I might be off a little)

Ionization adds ions to make stuff you'd want removed from water go to the outside so the UV sterileizer can kill the bad stuff,

An

R/O unit does the same type of process by forcing water under pressure through filters - depending on what actual filters are in the r/o system depends how much is removed.R/O remove metals and minerals - sometimes to much

Don't see why not, R/O's are actually made for "drinking water" as well.
