Has anyone here got or kept arowana's....seen some in lfs and there pretty impressive looking fish.the ones i saw were about 3ft in lenth and were in huge aquariums.

The other day i saw some baby arowanas about 2inches..and i dont think the shop are letting the customers know exactly whats in store..they look mega aggresive....:)

for me personally I don't understand the hype over these guys even though I have never kept one before. For the size tank one would need to be kept in I would rather own a nice big male dovii:D

They aren't aggresive expect with their own kind. They are very nice fish to own but most people don't have the ability to have one. Its' just such a large investment when you are going to need something with a 30" depth and a 72" length(this is usually a minimum. Some people will say a 180g will do the trick but I have seen aro's in even that size of a tank start to get gill curl(common when kept in to small of a tank).
Also they are very prone to jumping, I know of many people that just covered their tank and thought they were good, you must cover your tank and weight it with bricks to keep these bad boys in.
If you ever have the ability to keep I say go for it. The mojestic movements of these fish are unlike anything else.

good luck

thanx for the input guys....just wondered if they were a common thing in the u.s?......they are cool fish but as you said the aquarium size needed is impracticle for general home use.

................an interesting fish though to say the least.;)

I have a red arowana which is around 2 foot, used to have a red tail golden as well. They're awesome fish to keep, and guess what i keep the red with all my plecos, the smallest only about 4-5".
