Apisto Sp. "Morado"

Postby Akilia on Sun Aug 06, 2006 4:53 am

Hi  :icon_salut:
Anyone here successfully bred Apisto Sp "Morado"?
I'm looking for some tips especially about the levels of aggression and fry-eating I need to factor in.

Thanks,
Akilia

Which "Morado" do you have?

A cf. eunotus "Morado"
or
A. sp. Pebas "purple Morado"
or
A. panduro "morado"  ?

Most apistos breed easily - clean water at 78(f) and a pot for spawning.

Wild apistos  do better in soft water.

Consistancy is more important then "proper" PH, lots of apisto breeders in my area , they don't change PH at all , but do frequent water changes. For breeding they increse feeding of frozen brine and bloodworms.

Okey Dokey,

Thanks for the tips about getting the pair into breeding condition.
I was especially interested in the aggression question, and fry-eating behaviour though.
My main tank is 47USG, my proposed breeding tank is 10USG.

You ask about the species, assemblage, and complex!!!
That's a bit tricky, the goalposts keep moving! But, here goes.

I have a pair of Apistogramma which I am fairly sure (based on face barring lateral barring and caudal splotches) are colour morphs of A. pebas, they're from Peru I am told. The purple coloration pattern and tail coloration are A. pebas "Morado" type. It's not panduro (didn't know they came with a purple form).

I understand that A. pebas is now classified as an assemblage, also with the A. cruzi assemblage,  in the A. eunotus complex. I am not sure about whether A. cf. eunotus "Morado" is different from A. pebas "Morado", and whether it makes any difference to my question about breeding behaviour and aggression, but I am working on the above assumption that they are A. pebas, for what it's worth.
