Air stones?

I've always used air stones in my tanks, and recently I turned them off (way to loud). Now, I use H.O.B's so do you guys think that is enough water aggitation? The tanks look better without the bubbles and alot quieter.

As long as the tanks not overcrowded it'll be fine

You can't find a single airstone in my fishroom ;)

Call me stupid but what are airstones? I've never heard of them before. what do they look like? Are they those round flat disks that you hook up your air pump to?

Air stones?

Yeah, there are other kinds too. Some of them are cylindrically shaped. Most of them I have seen have been white. I saw a blue one once.

The underlying idea is that you hook up an air pump to the stone. The air is forced through the stone, and out tiny holes, making tiny bubbles that are more aesthetically pleasing (and move more water) than larger bubbles caused by just having an airline in the tank.

Air stones?

Like Gman I used air stones until a friend came over and suggested I turn off the air stones and put a power head in the tank. Wow, what a difference! The tank is cleaner, more serene and easier to take care of. I only have one in the tank right now but I am getting another one and settting up a cross current.

No more Air Stones for me!

OK, I'm trying it too -- I had airstones in the 55 that has the two GTs, yesterday I replaced them with a powerhead. Sure seems a lot calmer, and is much less noisy. My granddaughter may miss the bubbles, though, she likes to watch them when she comes over to the house!:)

Air stones?

Thanks for all the posts guys (it's alays nice to hear other peoples ideas and tank set-ups). As far as the crowed tank comment the answer is NO my tanks are probably under stocked. I don't enjoy the water changes. Well the air stones are gone and I'm lovin' it. I don't have any power heads but I think I should still be fine. Oh! by the way one of my heaters crashed and all my convicts came down with Ick!:( So say a little prayer for the little guys, they should come out of it soon. Just thought I'd give you all an update!:)
